(THE BOOK OF DANIEL: Chapter One)...Message Two: First Mark of an Overcomer.
The Theme of the Book of Daniel is ''Overcoming; even in a sin stricken/polluted.'' Below is the First Mark of an OVERCOMER.
(i) KNOWING & LIVING THE WORD OF GOD: Daniel 1:8 reads ''But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine.'' He could turn down the V.I.P treatment offered him by the king (i.e. eating from the best food & wine offered him by the king) because HE KNEW GOD'S WORD -- Even the Scriptures regarding What to Eat & Not to Eat. Let's have a look at some of them.
->Leviticus 17:10-14 God Warned them NOT to eat BLOOD.
->Leviticus 11:1-47 God gave them The Kind of Animals They Were to Eat & Those that They Were Not To Eat.
->Exodus 34:15 God warned them to ''Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.''
->PROVERBS 23:31-35, God warned them ''Don't gaze at wine,when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. You'll be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging.“They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?” What a tragedy and disgrace that awaits anyone who drinks alcohol! We're warned not to even GAZE/LOOK at it because that is what leads to Lust and later, addiction. Do U remember the studies we did on how sexual and all other sins start? They begin with a Thought; a Lustful one. Don' gaze at wine, or any woman. Don' look at her the second time, if the first look had the propensity of leading U to sin.
Of course, the picture is somewhat different in the New Covenant regarding the kind of food & animals to eat or not to eat. But the spiritual lesson we can pick from these scriptures is that; We should KNOW GOD'S WORD AND ABSTAIN FROM THINGS THAT WILL MAKE US UNCLEAN...especially any form of sin because even a small sin, not repented from, can send us to hell. Daniel Knew the Law/Word of God and was prepared live by it. DO U KNOW GOD'S WORD (LAW)? Thank U, if U do (Know) . But KNOWING IS NOT ENOUGH---LET'S LIVE BY IT. May the Holy Ghost help us, Amen.
