Signs of The End Times: ''CARDINAL TURKSON DENOUNCES UGANDA'S ANTI-GAY LAW''

Cardinal Turkson Rebukes Uganda Over Gay Law

  • 05 Mar 2014 07:42
Vatican cardinal, Peter Turkson, has criticised Uganda's anti-gay law and called for the repeal of its severe penalties.

Cardinal Peter Turkson, who is president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said Tuesday that "homosexuals are not criminals" and shouldn't be sentenced for up to life in prison.

Speaking to reporters in Bratislava where he attended a conference on the Catholic Church and human rights, Turkson said the Vatican also calls on the international community to keep providing aid.

Uganda has been hit with substantial aid cuts in reaction to the law.

The World Bank has postponed a $90 million loan for Uganda's health systems.

Pope Francis has made a point of reaching out to gays, famously saying: "Who am I to judge?"

The Head of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Vatican, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, is calling for the immediate repeal of Uganda’s new anti-gay law.
He says the severe sanctions associated with it must also be immediately abolished.
Addressing the media in Bratislava, Slovakian capital, where he attended a catholic conference on human rights, the cardinal said the world must recognize that “homosexuals are not criminals”, who must be given life sentences.
He also called on the international community to keep providing aid to crisis-hit areas in the world.
Uganda has widely been condemned across the world for toughening punishment for gays.
The World Bank in an apparent response suspended a $90 million dollar loan agreement with the East African country.
